Joseph Binder Symposium

Joseph Binder Award 2012

The Joseph Binder Award is an international competition with a focus on graphic design and illustration and was first launched by designaustria in 1996. It is named after one of the major graphic designers and illustrators active in Austria between the two World Wars, who subsequently also revolutionized visual communication in the United States.

Joseph Binder’s motto was: »In design, everything has a function. Design has a representational function. Design has a communicational function. Design has a motivational function.«

Graphic designers, illustrators, and students enrolled in relevant courses from all over the world are invited to enter their works realized in 2010 and after by 29 February (early bird) or 18 May 2012.

Please register online and note that all of your entries also have to be sent by post, together with the printed registration forms.

This year’s motif of the Joseph Binder Award is based on a magazine cover Joseph Binder designed in 1945 for the 23rd issue of »Graphis«, a periodical dedicated to graphic and commercial art.
